Boston Aztec women finish 4-4-3 in 2008 - The Boston Aztec WPSL team finished third in what is arguably the toughest division in all of the WPSL, ending the season on a down note with a 5-1 loss to the New England Mutiny.

In postseason news, Aztec forward Rebekah Splaine was named to the WPSL's All-East Second Team. As for the playoffs, while the Aztec women missed out on the playoffs, postseason action is well underway.

The two teams who beat Boston this year, Connecticut and New England, recently faced each other in the WPSL playoffs after the East-North Champion SoccerPlus Connecticut Reds beat the Lancaster Inferno, second in the East-MidAtlantic, by a score of 2-1, while the East-North runner up Mutiny knocked off the East-MidAtlantic champion Long Island Fury, 4-2. In other WPSL Regional Playoff action, the Sonoma County Sol (2nd place in the Pacific North) lost to Pacific South Champion West Coast FC 3-2, while Pacific North champ California Storm lost to Pacific South 2nd place Ajax America 2-0. Ajax defeated WCFC 2-0 in the Pacific Championship. For the Big Sky Conference Championship, the second place Arizona Rush shocked the regular season champion Utah Spiders 6-2 in the finals. The last team to reach the final four was the Midwest division champion MYSC Lady Blues, who beat Sunshine Conference champion Brevard County Cocoa Expos 1-0.

The 2008 WPSL Championships Final Four will be August 2nd and 3rd in Sacramento, California. In the semifinals on August 2nd, New England plays Arizona at 5:00 PM while Ajax plays the Lady Blues at 7:30 PM.

The Boston Aztec women's team plays at the highest level of amateur soccer in the United States. The Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) is one of the developmental feeder leagues for professional soccer in the US. Aztec teams have featured high-level current and former collegiate all-stars and former professional players.
