Welcome Coach Joe Calabrese

Coach Joe Calabrese Named Senior Boys and Girls Technical Director

Aztec Soccer Club is excited to announce that Joe Calabrese - a longtime coach and consultant for the club and the current head men’s soccer coach at Endicott College - has been named Senior Boys and Girls Technical Director.

In his new role, Calabrese will oversee the development and management of all senior coaches and implement the Aztec mission through a player development pathway. He will also work closely with the Aztec College Advising team of Mike Kersker (girls) and Jared Scarpaci (boys) to strengthen and expand the Aztec College Preparatory Program.

“Support for our coaches and development of our players are key priorities for the club,” said Scarpaci, who also serves as the club’s co General Manager (see below). “Aztec is thrilled to have someone like Joe Calabrese join our team in a full-time capacity and step into this new position. His skills on and off the field will help Aztec Soccer take a leadership position to not just strengthen our senior side but lead programming to impact change throughout the club.”

For the past four years, Calabrese has been closely involved with Aztec as a coach, consultant, and parent of three players who have grown up in the Aztec program.

“The opportunity to take on a larger and more impactful role at the club has been a natural progression for me,” said Calabrese. “I have had the opportunity to experience the player development path hands on, and I look forward to strengthening and enhancing the methodology and curriculum for our senior coaches.”

For the past 12 years, Calabrese has established himself as one of the most respected and successful Division 3 coaches in the region. He has led the Gulls to six Commonwealth Coast Conference regular season championships, coached 64 All-CCC players, and was named Conference Coach of the Year four times. Calabrese has been a familiar figure on the Aztec training fields in recent years. This past season, he brought members of his Endicott men’s soccer team to team trainings and introduced them to a collegiate training experience.

“Joe’s experience coaching and working with collegiate athletes will bring significant value to our players both on the girls and boys side,” said Scarpaci. “He will strengthen the collegiate preparatory program that we offer to all of our senior players.”
